National Equitable Labour Exchange Note for Ten Hours, issued by the Birmingham Branch 1833. EF.
These scarce notes were issued as part of a scheme set up by Robert Owen the Socialist Reformer who tried to introduce a system of cooperative exchange based on labour value. Workers exchanged their good for special notes which were valued according to the time needed to produce items. This note from the Birmingham Branch (the other being in London)is worth ten hours.
